Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm thinking about building my own gaming computer.
Here's the following parts I have looked at and are planning to buy. But before I buy it, I just want to make sure that everything is compatible and will work. Hi BigB, welcome to the forums.
Your motherboard is socket 1156 but your CPU is socket 1366, so they aren't compatible. You will need an X58 motherboard to be compatible. I have always been partial to Gigabyte (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128423 for example) but there are plenty of other good products available. The PSU you specified also has a lot of negative reviews. I would recommend the Corsair 650TX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005, which is a great PSU and an absolute bargain at $70 after Mail-in-rebate.

Okay, I couldn't find a Gigabyte motherboard that came in a bundle, but I did find this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188049 This would work right? Also, are any of my parts overkill? Could I get some parts cheaper but still retain good quality? I'm still a newbie at building computers and overclocking so I probably won't be doing anything too serious. Just want some good parts for a decent gaming computer. |

Also I think the case might be a little unnecessary
I looked at some more, which ones out of these will fit all of my parts. And which one is the best out of them? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147023 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147120 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147135 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147144 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147153 Thanks! |

Hello BigB. Welcome.
That EVGA motherboard would be just fine. Not sure what kind of bundle you're looking for, but the Gigabyte board that Wise Monkey was referring to has some better features. The Rosewill cases are ok, but kind of cheap. The Antec 900 you originally listed is much better. Check out the 902, it's even better. Also, the GTX465 is dead. Look for the GTX460 1gb. It's the newest version. |

Ok so how does this new video card sound?

Another question, is a ATX mid tower big enough? or should I try looking for a ATX full tower?

A mid tower is really big. I have the Antec 900 and there's plenty of room. I can't imagine anything bigger.

So with the motherboard WiseMonkey metioned, the GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128423
What kind of memory will it support? I was looking at these 2: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145220 CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145222 The only difference I see when comparing the 2 is that one is DDR3 1333 and the other is DDR3 1600. What exactly does the 1333 and 1600 mean? Which one will my mother support? Also, I was looking at PSUs. The one that WiseMonkey mentioned is the one I'm currently decided on. The CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 However, I wasn't sure if 650W is enough, so I also looked at: CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139010 So my question is, is the 650W enough? Or should I get the 750W? Even if the 650W is enough, is it worth the extra $50 to get the 750W. Is there anything different between the 2 besides the wattage it provides? Pros and cons? I have updated my parts list to reflect the latest ones I have research and currently decided on. Thanks Last edited by BigB; 08-02-2010 at 05:13 PM. |
