No doubt, there's a ton of stuff to consider -- at least for a first-build newbie like myself. Thanks for your two cents, as well as the contributions to the site. A great resource / community. I'm sure I'll have a few questions ahead.

Hi Ricky Tic,
I now have my case and power supply picked out. I want to have this computer hooked direct to DSL (not through a router) However. Would a dual port network card allow me to hook directly to DSL and use the other port to run a router so the rest of the family can remain wireless? My reason for being hooked direct is for live streaming data reliability. I will be building the highend I7-930 x58 Windows 7 reccommendation. My current router is a Apple airport extreme. Have a good night. |

The best configuration would be to have the DSL modem, a wireless router, and the pc's connected to the router. You can still connect directly to the router (non-wireless) for optimal bandwidth and streaming.

That is good news. One less part to buy. I should just order all my stuff
as it is eating at me to get started.

You'll notice several 802.11 protocols, (a,b,g,n). The "n" is the latest version and the fastest. I have 4 pc's in the house, 3 are wireless and the Wii is wireless. My main pc is wired directly to the router and so is an XBOX 360. My router is a Linksys WRT300N. There are newer version out now, so shop around. We stream Netflix on all of them and they run great.
