Haven't been on the forum for a while. Good to see you're still at it.
Remember what I said about getting something like the Quadro. If it's broke so may you be. If you get my...
This Arctic Cooling MX 2 looks better than the Arctic Silver 5 (different companies) that has been recommended in the past. In a post WM mentioned it is better than AS5 when posting about an AC...

I'm drooling. You folks in the UK getting 50mbps. The 20mb has me salivating.

I'd stick with intel.
The E8400 is $40 more at Newegg. Maybe able to pick it up cheaper soon. I think it is worth the difference.
Plenty of recommendations for MOBO for this...
Jimmy,
The Q6600 is an old reliable. The price is lower and since you want to do some CAD work; I think the larger L2 cache may be a benefit. The 2.4ghz vs 2.5ghz is minimal and if you...
Trader,
I have 2 Samsung 204a 20 inch and 2 old envision 19" lcds. Those envisions set me back a bundle when they came out but are still working great. No complaints on the Samsungs either. I...
looks like they are using this case

rather than the silverstone.

Boba,
I have 2 20" Samsungs and I don't have a problem.
The warranty on the HP is 12mo and 3yr for the Samsung.
The HP has some USB ports if you need them.
That is a wheel barrow full of bucks for that system. Unless you are doing formula crunching to the extreme, 2 Xeon quads are a bit much. And, they are 2.0ghz.
You say you are using 2 gb ram so...
If you just made a small "valley" with your finger, smoothing it out with someting like a credit card will most likely be enough to fix it. Otherwise, go to a local store and pick up some arctic...

I'm not a gamer so I'll leave that to others.
The e6850 has a 4mb L2 compared with the 6mb of the Xeon and wolfdale. That may slow it some.
Also, costs $40 more than the Xeon. I don't know if...

I'd look for one with the lowest response time. My next criterion wouild be price.
here's what one person got it to do.

Doesn't seem to be a problem here.
Trying to get info before I start. Don't have one, yet.
Read on another site that going above 1.36v will cause instability at higher clocks. Seems they could get it to over 4 but after some time...
Just trying to get some current info so I can order one at the same time if needed. Lots of posts not long ago about arctic freezer 7; but, that was coupled with the Q6600, before the 8400. Now not...
It seems as though most sellers are out of stock on the E8400. I saw one link on google for near $300. Didn't bother to look. I'll wait. A local store had them for $190. Was going to get one...
With the new E8400 retail box, is the common practice now to go with the included fan? The new penryn's lower wattage not as much of a heat factor to get another cpu fan?
Thanks
I'm looking to buy the e8440 today and checked around. Found this one real cheap.
I've been in their local store. Probably an OK place to buy.

I believe you are using the E8400 as you mentioned in another thread. Correct. I have two questions for those in the know.
1. With the e8400 is the fan that comes with it in the retail box the...
It's cheaper than the 8800gts but it has 64 stream processors compared to 128 on the 8800's. I am definately not an expert; but I think more is better if you can get close to the same clock and bit...
Wasn't really a question. Just trying to figure out what I can use. So anything under what is specified. Then go for the Gigabyte MOBO over the ASUS?
