So I guess I need to take the motherboard out and check the cpu and cooler? Going to try and get a coretemp reading while running sp2004orthos. Do you think this has anything to do with the computer...
I went into the bios and it said cpu temp 12c and motherboard 32c
I downloaded coretemp and it reported 28-30c for each core (e6750)
What could cause such a huge misread by the motherboard...

Have an asus p5k-vm and e6750 not overclocked

Thanks for...
THis is my second build and trying to keep things simple. Just wanted to check with some of the experts here about any pitfalls I might be about to fall into.

I just ran of Prime95 for 26hrs without any error on a new build. It's an E6420 so I ran 2 instances of Prime95 one for each core so I got 100% cpu usage. Anyway, Using Asus PC Probe I got CPU temps...
It did come with 1. I need another for a second WD SATA hard drive I'm adding. Got it OEM from newegg so no cables included, not sure if retail would come with one anyway.
What's the best way to test (burn-in) a new system?
I ran prime95 torture test for 12 hours (no error) the I ran mem86. Do I need to run a hard drive test? It's a WD so I guess I could use their...
If you go here http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=1&name=Cables then scroll down on your left under "Type" you will see SATA and SATA II. I guess I'm confused about which cable...

Just bought a Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM -so it did not come with a cable
Newegg has a lot of different sata cables, I can't figure out which...
I see motherboards like Intel boards that specify what voltage ram to use such as 1.8v
Is this a rule or a suggestion? Can't seem to find anything in my asus p5b vm se manual about it.
I noticed on newegg you can get an OEM version of windows xp pro for $140 and the retail version is $290. Is it smart to buy the OEM version?
I don't want to have trouble if I decide to...
Thanks for the help!
Is there any reason to use a IDE dvd burner other than saving a couple bucks? Seems like SATA is the way to go if you can.
I've got a Asus P5B VM SE that I am trying to pair with a good power supply. I have noticed that some motherboard makers such as Intel specify how many amps min/max should be on each 12V rail. I can...
I am on my second build and having a really hard time finding any resource to help choose the right power supply. Is there just a general rule to follow, such as staying with a good brand? Maybe just...
Rob,
I found out that you can only get GoBack if you buy Norton SystemWorks. Seems like a waste. Not to mention having to install all the crap you don't need along with it. Is there any other...
If you're going for pure all-around stability and reliability which mb would you choose?
I keep seeing posts about a July 22 price drop on Core 2 duo E6600, but the only official word from Intel I see is that they're reducing the price of the Quad core but nothing about the E6600 or...
It appears that symantec has taken over GoBack and renamed it Norton Save & Restore 2.0. Not sure though.
Rob, I see you mention GoBack software a lot, but I can't find it. Has the name changed? Do you still recommend it or do you like something else? Thanks

Thanks for all the advice!
It looks like a lot of people buying at newegg are big on the EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16...
I guess I might as well. What would you recommend as far as a decent graphics card for the money? Considering it will only be used for occasional gaming.
Thanks
All the Intel motherboard manuals recommend using a "Electrostatic discharge (ESD) workstation using an antistatic wrist strap
and a conductive foam pad. If such a station is not available, you can...
Just wanted to get some opinions on a system I'm about to build. This build is for a small office computer. I needed on-board video and a serial port so I chose the P5B-VM SE. Maybe I should have...
