This one is a little dated, but still helpful.

For a gaming PC to last upwards of 5 years, it may take a larger investment than $800. With that said, you could start out with an $800 PC knowing that you'll need to make upgrades every year or so....
You'll definitely want to put the OS on the SSD as it will allow for much quicker load times. Typically, the larger HDD is used for photos, videos, and games. Putting the games on the SSD doesn't...
Was in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop by and say Hello.
Hope things are going well.

Even with this video card, you system is going to struggle somewhat with the newer...
This was an issue way back even before Haswell was released. Hardware.info brake the story in March. http://us.hardware.info/news/33716/usb-30-problems-for-intels-haswell
It's been corrected and...
Why did you go back to an Ivy Bridge system?
I'd stay with Haswell like you had to begin with.
Looks good. I don't have an issue with the B85 board, but you do lose some RAID options as well as a couple of USB and SATA ports. Not a really big deal , unless you're a power user or looking for...
Have you looked at the Corsair Carbide 200R? Overall, it may be a better option than the Antec Three Hundred Two.

I usually update the recommended build list every quarter, but just haven't had a chance lately. You can see the links in my signature below. Otherwise, read through this for a comprehensive list of...
$260 for a used x58 motherboard is way too much.
The cpu and mobo I suggested in a previous post is less than $400 and it would be much faster than what you have now. Don't put more money into an...

You should look into LibreOffice since OpenOffice is now defunct.
There are advantages to using MS Office since it is the de facto business software. Sometimes files don't convert perfectly from...
Yeah, the video card can generate a good bit of heat. Have you looked at OCCT? I seem to remember that it stressed it all at once. I could be wrong.
Freeware that I currently use is:
Notepad++
Gimp
VLC media player
Handbrake
Audacity
Macrium
Jing
and of course
Microsoft Security Essential
Seasonic is the maker of Corsair psu's. ;)
Good advice on the SSD for saving some money. Since I use MS Office a lot, I need a larger drive to hold it all.
I've found extended warranties to almost always be a waste of money. jmo
I agree. Looks like a new motherboard is needed. I'd be tempted to shop ebay for an X58 motherboard. You should be able to find something worthwhile. If not, look at Amazon and Newegg.
Which sata port is the SSD connected to? Did the user's manual specify which port to use?
The 8gb ram stick is not compatible. Find some triple channel ram and put it in the proper 3 slots like the manual (and zburns) says. That's the first place to start trouble-shooting.
I would go with a i5-4670k and a Z87 motherboard like the Asus Z87-A.
That's a terrific build. The only suggestion I would make is to consider a slightly larger SSD. Maybe something like the Samsung 840 Pro 256gb.
With a Z87 motherboard you might consider a GT640...
I know some people like to run it for several hours, but it just doesn't seem really necessary to me. If your cpu runs at 100% for an hour with no problem, I'd call it good and move on.
Congrats on your build.
For stress testing, look at Prime95 and FurMark. I've also used OCCT in the past too.
