The other consideration is the return policy for bad hardware. If the parts languish in the corner too long you could find yourself stuck.

The max memory for my current motherboard is stated to be 384Mb, yet my windows systems states that I'm running 512Mb. Is the difference being recognized but unused or is something else going on here?
