My old PC is configured just the way I want it and has an IDE HDD. I also own Acronis true Image and a 500GB external USB drive.

I want to build a new PC with SATA drives. Is there a way to clone my present XP drive to the external USB drive and then use it to "restore" my contents to the new SATA drive in the new PC?

Dave.

You will have to re-install windows if you change any significant components, as it will not work properly.

Is there a way to do it that will preserve all my other programs and data so I only reinstall Windows?

OK, try doing this:

Forgot about this... XD

You'd be much better off with just connecting the IDE drive up as well as the SATA drives and then cloning it that way.
