Merry Christmas to all. I need a few suggestions. I currently have a 4 year old Dell Dimension 4600 and is has been stellar. But it is slowing down and becoming annoying. I primarily use my computer for browsing and email. Occasionally I have 6 or 8 pages/tabs open at a time, so this would be the bulk of the hard work. I don't think I need an audio or video board at this time, but would like to have the option to add it in the future. I don't have any optical drives and I would also like to add a card/chip reader in a drive bay. I also have a spare analog monitor which will suffice for the moment. I just recently ordered the Antec 900 for $59.99 thanks to the post by Ricktick. I know this is way more case than I need, but couldn't pass up the coolness and the price. Of course I will also need a power supply. No real budget, but from every thing I have read on here, with no more computer than I really need, I would think $500 build be a monster. Thanks All

A $500 build with new technology components will run so much better than your Dimension 4600.
Gigabyte GA P35 DS3L $92
Intel E2160 $85
8600GT video card $100
2gb ram $50
Wester Digital Caviar SE 16 320gb $80
Samsung SH S203B $35
This is a rough estimate on prices, but it gives you a great start on an Econo build.

Thanks so much for the fast reply RickyTick. Just a couple of questions. First of all, is this the processor you were thinking about. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116036&Tpk=Intel%2bE2160
Secondly, I did a search on newegg on the video board you quoted above and a bunch came up. Is there a specific model or brand you guy like or would recommend. And what brand of memory do you prefer. Thanks again.

Partyman that is the correct processor.
For the 8600GT you should go for this model http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085
And the Corsair memory is one of the best gaming memorys available so you should get that.

Yep, looks like you got it.
Sorry, I couldn't get back to you quicker. Been busy feeding the kids, giving bathes, and putting them to bed.
All that really makes for a nice system. You shouldn't be disappointed at all.

Hey Guys, just another question, I have the parts coming from newegg, I ordered the hard drive with the ide connectors not realizing what the sata was all about. When my hard drive comes in, should I return it for a sata drive or will it really make much difference. I belong to the local guard base and we do all the mall computer repair for the base. I have done a lot of repairs, ie motherboard, power supply video board swap out, but this is my first from scratch project and I am learning alot and enjoying myself immensely. Thanks again for all the help guys.
