Well after a couple weeks of lurking on here and doing some research I finally ordered parts to do my first build.

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R
CPU: Intel C2D E6750
Video Card: EVGA 512-P2-N757-TR GeForce 8600 GT(went for the 8600 instead of the 8800 because of price, will upgrade in the future)
RAM: Corsair XMS2 2GB
HD: WD 250GB WD2500KS
Optical Drive: Lite-On LH-20A1H-186
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-520HX
OS: XP Home(have Vista on the laptop, but went for XP because of it's stability. Don't really feel comfortable with Vista for games, driver support, and such. Haven't had any problems with it on my laptop though.)
Case: APEVIA X-CRUISER-BK (went for the Apevia because of the looks and it does have good reviews) Also was looking at the Antec 900, seen a few of you recommend it, but still went for the Apevia.

Don't play games on the PC much, but this should handle games whenever I decide to. Not having a good gaming comp has been keeping me from playing newer games. Have a Compaq Presario laptop for everyday use right now, but that only has a celeron processer and well...it was the cheapest laptop at bestbuy last October when I got it. Now I'm off to play some COD4 on the 360 since Xbox Live finally decided to come back up.

Well this sucks. Parts won't be here until Jan. 2. Was hoping to get them Friday so I could build it before I had to go back to work on Wednesday. At least they're all in one shipment. Ordered everything from newegg. Should have sprung for faster shipping instead of going for the UPS 3 day select.

Well got everything put together yesterday. Everything works great. Don't have a monitor right now so I've been using my 52 inch lcd tv for right now. Going to best buy tomorrow to pick up a 19 inch lg monitor that's on sale for $200.

HDTV's are nice. Especially with the Xbox 360 and COD4. Bought a 19" LG monitor today for the comp. Got the comp sitting next to the computer desk now. Only problem is I didn't have an ethernet cable long enough to reach the desk so I had to run the long cable I got and move the modem to the desk so the desktop has net. Now I still have to go buy a ethernet cable so I can get on xbox live. The laptop and the wii are fine with the wireless.

Well here it is the 16th of January and my build is still going strong. I did make a couple changes. I upgraded the back case fan from an 80m to a 120mm and moved that one along with a new 80mm fan to the front so now my case has 3 80mm fans and 1 120mm fan. Definitely notice a drop in the temp. Have the temp gauge on the graphics card. Also upgraded to Vista yesterday. And since I'm not using the XP disc on any other comps I'm going to go and sell it on ebay. Looked it up on Microsoft's site and found out as long as it's uninstalled from the comp it was on and it's a retail version me or someone else can use it on another computer they will have to call Microsoft to get it activated though. Vista is running great. The o nly newer game that I've played is Command & Conquer 3. Plan on getting the expansion pack when it comes out.

I'm just happy I didn't f anything up when I built it. I know my way around computers for the most part, but nothing like building my own from scratch. Never again am I going to buy a prebuilt desktop.

I used the step up program that EVGA offers and stepped up to an 8800 GTS from the 8600 GT that I had. Used an 8400 GS while I sent in the 8600 and was waiting for the 8800 to come in. Haven't played any games yet with it, but did run 3dmark06 and my score went from the 5000's to the 9000's.

Just make sure you run rivatuner with that thing in the background.

I just got my computer built and am using the same thing, and while I was playing a game it BSOD'ed me. I was like WTF and then I remembered the thread about neededing riva tuner because the fan on it is set to run way too low for intense graphic use.

getting rivatuner and ramping up the fan was one of the first things I did.
