Hi all! This is my 3rd system build ever (since 2003), and the first I have had any show-stopping issues with. Specs/parts listed at bottom.

I appreciate all the help you guys contribute. I honestly don't know people like me would survive without forums like this to go to.

Anyways, what happens:
Upon startup, *all* fans move and light up, etc. for about half a second before computer shuts itself down. No smoke or beeping or anything else, and it won't start back up for a half second until CMOS or Battery is cleared. I tried switching to the stock Intel heatsink - no dice. I also tried looking at the processor pins but they looked fine as far as I could tell...and it seemed to go down smoothly enough with the little lever.

My ?guesses?:
Bad motherboard?
Is RAM messing with me?
Too much Arctic Silver?
**I have no idea what I'm doing with the SATA Hard Drives. Always used IDE. Just kinda plugged 'em both in and was hoping to 'figure it out'. Should I unplug one or both?

I wanted to see if this was an easy fix before I spent another several hours trying things that didn't seem relevant.

Thanks a million :)

I had the exact same symptoms also on my 1st build. Fans would run or try to run for approximately 1/2 second and then off. Nothing. My power supply had went out and I bought a new one and this happened. Never suspected it 'cause
it was new one. I posted my problem awhile back. Good luck.

I would suggest that your PSU is faulty - do you have a spare you can try out?

PSU is either faulty or the CPU is overheating.

CPU wouldn't overheat that quickly tbh.

Depends on whether the cooler was in contact at all, highly unlikely though, more than likely a faulty PSU.

The only other thing i can think of that would make a PC turn off so fast is the CPU power connector not being plugged in.

test the psu too see if it works and then the mobo and so on and also make sure that ur hard drive is plugged nito S-ATA drive1. ur mobo manual should have the info

thanks for the tips guy. but how can i figure out if my mobo is bad though? ill try a different psu and some of that other stuff and check back. Anyone else think its a bad PSU?
