Let's say for example: when I build my pc, I also have a plasme/HDTV; If I get a HDMI cable, then can I connect my computer to the large TV and use it as a monitor? or does the motherboard need to be compatible with HDTV?

This is the motherboard that I have:

Most LCD TV's have a DVI or a VGA port, my HDTV does, you can only hook up your PC via these two ports, it can't be connected via HDMI as most TV's don't accept the input from a PC.

oh I see, but is it still possible to connect your computer to a plasma if everything is compatible?

Does your TV have a VGA or a DVI port at the back? if so then yeah you can hook your PC up to it and there shouldn't be any problems.

I don't have a HDTV yet but I'll look for those ports when we eventually get one,
that would be so awesome when playing games

I have my HDTV connected via dvi to hdmi cable and works good except there is a deal with the 8800 series nvidia cards that do not compensate for overscan and the edges of the screen are out of view, and you have to do a download fix. Once fixed, it looks great.
