My first build-need advise

Hi guys, This is going to be my first build . In the past I replaced hard drives,video/sound cards and worked a little with bios .If I take my time I think I can do it . What are some common first time builder mistakes? Any advise or tips would be greatly appreciated . Here is what I picked out . Please look it over and see if everything is compatible or if you don't like any of the products . This pc will be used for gaming and video editing . I will be getting Vista 32 bit . Thanks , Brin

Looks good for the most part, but a couple of things to consider:

1. The 8800GT is a lot better than the 8800GTS and is actually cheaper, so I would advise getting that instead.
2. Any 32-bit OS, like the one you have chosen, will not be able to address more than 3GB of RAM. You are better off getting 2GB of higher quality RAM e.g. Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 CL4.
3. For the same price as your Core 2 Duo processor, you could get the Q6600 quad core - definitely worth it, at that price.

I have to agree with my wise friend here ;) , if your video editing defo go for the Q6600.

2GB of Ram is better than 3GB is a 32bit OS even though its hard to believe.

One thing though, i personally would change the PSU to a Corsair HX520 its cheaper and better.

My system is very similar to yours.

I used the Corsair XMS2 ram and had to change the voltage in the Bios to 2.1v instead of the default 1.8. Keep that in mind if you have post errors on first boot.

For a few dollars more, the 500gb version of that Hard drive mght be a better choice IMO.

Agree with JN and WM, the quad is the way to go.
