Do they both operate the same way? i think read somehting saying that one card in sli produces everyother row and the other card does everyother row. How does crossfire work? is one more effective or stable over the other?

The main difference between the two is that SLI requires two identical cards i.e. same brand, same GPU, same everything. Crossfire just requires that they have the same GPU e.g. one Gainward X1950 and one Sapphire X1950 in crossfire would work.

It doesn't matter about the brandage of card for either, or that they are entirely the same, they both require the same GPU and the same amount of Vram and if thats all good they will work fine.

Neither are reliable really, but SLi is more reliable than Crossfire due to much better drivers that add SLi support.

Just to mention though, you should never get two cards, always stick with one.
