These drives are huuuuugely fast at reading, but about the same on write. The main idea is that they use the same technology as USB flash drives, but they have an IDE interface instead.

They have no moving parts, so they are very light and use minimal power, plus they are about 60x faster at reading than a 10,000RPM WD Raptor drive. The only downside is that they are still ridiculously expensive.

They won't go down in price, ever.

Very bold statement there. Technology always seems to drop in price.

In terms of Harddrives, they rarely go down a lot in price.

An 80GB HD i bought a year ago cost me £35, now there £25, not really a big price difference compared to say, ram.

Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 800 cost £300 a year ago and it cost £50 now.

80 Gb hard drives might not be changing much, but say a 500 Gb hard drive is about $100 now (not sure what that is in pounds) and a year ago they were maybe twice that.

Also flash drives, i paid $60 two years ago for a 64 mb flash drive. You can buy a full gig for about $10.
