I was looking at buying some corsair RAM, and I was wondering what an afordable yet powerful chip(s) to get would be. Would I be best with a pair of 2gb RAM, or one set of 4GB? (FYI, im looking at DD2).
This is mainly for video games, such as Cyris

a 32 bit ops can only recognize a bit above 3 gb, so theres no point to getting more than that unless u have a 64 bit ops
That's right about the amount of memory Windows can actually use. See this page.

I'd suggest 2GB for a gaming rig.

I'm actually going to be using a 64-bit operating system.
Wouldn't 4gb of RAM make games run smoother?
No, I don't think so. There may be an exception, but generally no.

ok, thanks a bunch. I've decided to just get 2gb of RAM. The 2gb versus 4gb won't impact the computer's performance right?

The only reason to have that much RAM is if you do loads of video/photoshop work, where that kind of spare memory is needed. Otherwise, 2GB will do pretty much anything you need. :)

Ive actually decided to go with 4gb of RAM.
I have chosen to use four 1gb Ballistix BL12864AA1065 modules. Even though there only 1gb each, could i get four for 4gb total? And will they work with any motherboard (specifically the Asus Maximus motherboard).
Thanks for any help!

They should work fine with the Asus Maximus.

the only people who need 8 gb of ram are scientists that need to perform MASSIVE equations. but they probably have supercomputers to do that.

Or people with servers, some of which use up to 32GB of RAM depending on their functions e.g. Windows Terminal Servers.
