Ok, I'm new to the building a new computer thing.
As of today black friday and holiday deals are going to be upcoming and I want to build a computer instead of buying one as a whole.

A mother board, how do i know if it is compatible with what kind of ram/harddrives/processors/fans do they have specific model types or brand or something so that they fit each other or do they all work?

A motherboard will tell you what it is compatible with i.e whether it has a PCIe slot for the graphics card or it supports DDR2 memory or whether it supports SATA HD ect.

If you are worried about compatibility just ask and we will help you out.

What will you be using the computer for and whats your max budget?

Yeah when they say compatible with DDR2 or DDR what is the difference between modles eg; PC3200/PC6400/PCXXXX?

DDR means dual data rate, DDR2 means double data rate.

So for example DDR PC3200 runs at 400Mhz and DDR2 PC6400 runs at 800Mhz, double you see.

So the difference between the two (DDR and DDR2) is that DDR2 is double the clock speed of DDR.

That goes for all DDR memory such as PC2700, its DDR2 equvialant is PC5400.

Do you get it now mate?

SO the numbers like 2700/3200/6400 do not matter just the type of the ram like DDR/DDR2?

because the thing is budget doesn't seem like a problem, i just dont want someone doing my dirty work, i want to actually gain knowledge and see if i can work on my own. when i put everything together then ill ask if i did it right, you see the point im getting at?

The numbers are a quick way of finding the ram you want.

The numbers equate to the speed of the ram, so PC3200 equates to 400Mhz Ram, and PC6400 equates to 800Mhz Ram.

Go onto wikipedia and put in DDR and DDR2 and you will find out everything you need to know.

Lets say I want to build a nwe computer with 1000-1400$ in budget.
How should i go? I game, but not a heavy gamer with like the newest top games. Something like WoW,Counter-Strike Source,Warcraft III enough to get me around 100fps all around.
