Hello
I've recently upgraded from win98 to win 98se but I cannot increase the screen resolution from 640x480 pixels. I had the same problem under windows 98 first edition and it was resolved using my recovery disk. But the recovery disk won't boot on my new os. Would buying a new graphics card help? I'm currently using S3 Trio 3D/2X.

What size is your monitor? You may want to check this page too:

I think that the max resolution for 14" is only about 800x600, so you won't notice a major difference.

But it could be increased to 1280x1024 (perhaps more) under my previous OS.

Looked at the link (thanks!) and I think it's a driver problem. It must be that the drivers are on the recovery disk that enabled the previous increase.
Does anyone know how to retrieve drivers from a CD - can it be done and would it work?

I have had dealings with that S3 card before, and it is possible to get the drivers off the internet - check out http://www.driverguide.com, as this is a great place to get really obscure drivers. You need to sign up, but its free.
Have you tried exploring the CD to see what is on there?

Hi thanks for the link. I tried it but it did not work (the driver that is). The only thing that has come close to allowing me to change settings is when I use the display/properties box on the desktop. When I change it to super vga it allows me to move the slider but because it always want me to restart the computer (despite setting it not to do that) when it comes back on it resets itself.
I can't make head nor tail of the cd. I haven't a clue what to look for.
