Video Card question

I haven't built or bought anything yet, but I just wanted to know for video card updates:
If the manufacturer comes up with a new update for the card you bought, then can you get that update off their website with no cost? or is there a certain way to update them? :)

It depends what you mean by updates.

If you are talking about drivers, you download them directly from nvidia.

If you are talking about the card itself, then you can only get an upgrade from certain manufacturers e.g. eVGA offer a 90 day step-up program, where you can upgrade your card to something better by only paying the difference between the two cards.

You can't do this with most manufacturers though.
