Hi, first post, still pricing out components and whatnot for building my first pc.

I know a bit about videocards, and have done a bunch of research on them, and being a gamer and someone who uses autocad, photoshop and formz I've decided to go with the 8800 GTS.

My only question now is what peoples experiences are with the xfx model vs the evga model. Both are the same price on new egg it seems after rebate (links below), but I haven't any experience with different manufacturers.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!

DO NOT get an 8800GTS, Nvidia released a new 8800GT today that totally wipes the floor with both versions (320 and 640) and its cheaper then the 320mb.

Should be on newegg later today or tomorrow.

Just ordered the xfx 8800 GT today. pretty excited for it. I went with the xfx as it has 1+1 lifetime warranty. meaning if you sell the card, your buyer can get a lifetime warranty too. EVGA has a 90 day step up program that is cool if you plan to buy a better card in 90 days. The purchase price of your old card is applied to the price of the old card. You have to send in your old card though. I don't plan to buy a new card for a while so xfx was for me. Plus Company of Heroes came with the card, where EVGA was giving away Quake Wars.

You should be excited mate, i am :D

Check out my thread in the other video card section, the update one, i posted the 3DMark06 scores and comparison.

So much card for the money its unbelievable.

Very excited. The release of this card delayed my first build by over a month. Well the release of this card, and the piss poor shape of my bank account.

I'm quite confused - the card I have is actually more expensive than the best 8800GT, so I can't do the step-up... :S

That really is unfair.

That sucks. How much longer do you have to step up? there's a rumored 8800 GTS (Same name) but its supposed to be better. and then there's the supposed 9800 coming out end of November, again another rumor, but you might not be out of luck yet. Unless your step up ends soon.

Can you not knock your graphics card off the kitchen table and get a refund WM ;) , it really is appalling the way Nvidia have now released a card that is so cheap but a lot better than the ones that are more expensive.

The new GTS is out on the 19th of novemeber and will cost less than a 640 GTS despite being just a bit less powerful than an 8800Ultra XXX edition.

I am giving my cards to my bro so i am not at a loss really, but for all the thousands of people who have gone out and bought a GTS or even a GTX to find that they were ripped off, it pisses me off

It pisses you off?!?!

Might wait until the 19th then and update to that - my card is rated at $349.99 on eVGA and the best 640MB one is $399.99.

The best 8800GT is only $289.99 though... :(

We might be all right Jamie - the 8800GT won't be as good as the new 8800GTS, which I can upgrade to using the eVGA step-up program, so all is not lost...for the moment. :D

Oh, and that is the right one holcikam. :)

Same boat for me.

I bought my $379.00 8800GTS 640 on Aug 31st, so I still have about a month to go on the step up program. I hope something comes available soon.

Personally (and i am sure you will all agree) this is a pisstake by Nvidia, so they bring out a card, which is a good'ish card for an obscene amount of money, then 3 months later, they bring out a card, which is smaller, has a totally new chip (65NM) which simply blows everything away (bar the GTX which is only 3% better) for less than the cheapest card going, Nvidia always do this, their heads are so far up their own asses they think they can get away with it, i can't even do the step up program

Rant over, i am going to have some herbal tea :D

I bought an EVGA-Gforce 8800GT with 512 from NewEgg at $309.00, for my new system. I havent tried many games yet, but it really kicks ass in my Pinnacle 11.1.1 movie editing software.
