I spent a bit over a month doing research, to build an upper range gaming system. I'm not fully decided on the graphic's card yet, but I won't be getting that until Christmas - my budget for that is in the $500-$700 range.

Anyhow.. Here's the list.

Motherboard:
Biostar TForce TF570 SLI

Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 FX-62

Memory:
OCZ PC2-6400 Platinum XTC Revision 2 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit (X2)

Power supply:
OCZ GameXStream 850W ATX12V 24PIN SLI Ready Active PFC ATX

hard drive:
Seagate / Barracuda 7200.10 / 500GB / 7200 / 16MB / Serial ATA-300 /

dvd writer:
Samsung SH-S203B Black SATA DVD+RW 20X8X16 DVD-RW 20X6X16

DVD rom:
ASUS 16X DVD-ROM Drive SATA

Heatsink:
Scythe Mini Ninja Heatpipe Fanless Heatsink AM2

Hardrive cooler:
Thermaltake A2427 Hard Drive Blue LED Cooler 80MM

Extra fan for the top of the case:
Cooler Master Neon Blue LED 120MM Case Fan 3PIN

Case:
Thermaltake Kandalf LCS Black ATX Tower Case BUILT-IN Liquid Cooling System

I'm planning on getting Vista home premium, 32bit. When I get the the graphic's card, it'll be watercooled. I have an extra floppy drive.

What are your thoughts on this build?

Intel are much better than AMD at the moment, so you are better off getting, for example, an e6750, which will out perform the processor you selected and is actually cheaper.

Motherboard-wise, I would recommend the Asus P5N-E SLI, as it is an excellent gaming motherboard and is quite cheap at the moment too.

As for the RAM, Corsair XMS2 RAM is very good for gaming - get the CL4 version for the best performance.

Finally, that PSU that you selected is serious overkill. One of the best PSUs available at the moment is the Corsair HX520, which will easily power your system.

You can get all of these components pretty cheaply on Newegg. IIIRC, several of them have rebates at the moment.
