I am looking at either buying or building a computer for general home office, and light home movie transfers to DVD and editing. I have seen HP Pavillion Media Center desktops everywhere with either the AMD 5600+ (NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE graphics), AMD 6000+ , the Intel Q6600 quad, or the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS graphics). These machines seem to have everything, including video imputs on front DVD burner, software and TV tuners. Would I do better to build for around $1,000? Are the HP's dependable?

I've never built a computer before, and I wonder if the off-the-shelf systems would be adequate. I don't do much gaming. I just want it to work.

Thanks for any advice or encouragement.

Build yourself one, for a $1000 you could build yourself a much better computer.

8400GS, LMAO :D
