This is my first build, so if any of the things I have don't match then please let me know. It is basically the superpc setup by rob
I have decided to build my own PC because I am tired of the dell that I have and I have always want to build one.
Could not figure out how to post the wish list from newegg and I am off to work thanks. If you can find it on newegg it the title is spy774 computer and it is shared.

Few tips, Intel are light years ahead of AMD, any Core 2 duo is better than an AMD CPU.

Motherboard, the chipset is very, very old.

The Zalman 9500 is probably the worst cooler on earth.

That PSU is more likely to blow up than power your system, the case is just, well lets leave it there.......

You can go ahead with this build if you wish, but i think you will end up regretting it considering for the same price or just a little more you can build a core 2 duo based system that would absolutely wipe the floor with this spec.

I am asked every day to help people price there computers to within their budget and i don't mind doing the same for you if you want, just tell me your guestimated budget.

Well help me out please. my limit is $1500
the only reason i was looking into the amds was because i have never owned one. i also play lots of First person shooters, other than the regular stuff i want something that can handle games on a pretty high level. Also want dual drives. if it takes time for me to reply it is because i am on my ppc.
thanks.

I am a first person shooter god my friend, if i do say so myself :p ;) :D

Absolutely love em.

This is a much better spec, just check newegg for info and prices.

Asus P5N32-E SLi motherboard
Intel Core 2 duo E6750
Corsair XMS2 Ram, this comes with a big rebate
Stick with the 8800GTS you chose and the Harddrive.

Are you going to be overclocking? if not, the stock cooler and pre-applied paste is excellent even for minor overclocking, if you want to overclock get the Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro, its much cheaper and much better than the Zalman.

The case is down to you although i recommend the Antec 900, its one of the best cases out now.

The hot PSU to go for now is the Corsair HX520, its one of the best PSU's in the world, always spend a good chunk of you money on the PSU, its the most important component.

I also wouldn't get the soundcard, i think they are a waste of money, the onboard sound on the Asus is excellent.

If you need more info just ask :)

what dvd burner do you recommend?

The Wise Monkey

Most DVD burners are pretty good, but I'd recommend a SATA driver, possibly by either LG or Sony.

Jamie Nixx

Go for a SATA LG one, they are excellent

No problemo mate, i see you went for the Antec 900, excellent case, i have one myself :D

Those pics on newegg don't do it justice.

One question why are the new processors rated at a lower speed (2.66 ghz) and the old ones at higher speeds (3.0ghz like in my old dell 8300). Technology just better and they can run faster at slower speeds?

Jamie Nixx
10-08-2007, 02:24 PM
Over exaggeration mostly, lots of people thought if the Ghz was higher it was faster, nope, very wrong there, it was mainly a marketing ploy by Intel to sell more, the CPU's ran at that speed but they were not necessarily faster than AMD's lower speed CPU's.

Technology also has a lot to do with it, which is why AMD could run there CPU's at lower speeds and still churn out better results, not now however, the core 2 duo has completely wiped out anything AMD has to offer.

Cool thanks

I would look for a cheaper case and put that money into an 8800gts 640mb superclocked :)

BrianB
10-08-2007, 03:01 PM
how much difference would the 8800gts 640 be over the 8800gts 320, and would that require a bigger psu.

Amosmoses33
10-08-2007, 03:04 PM
i have a 620w for mine, but the 550w would do fine, otherwise we would have pretty much the same sys. I have the same mobo and processor. I have the 8800gts 640mb.

Jamie Nixx
10-08-2007, 03:11 PM
You only need the 640MB 8800GTS if your running at super high resolutions, you only chose a 19'' monitor so it would be major overkill, you just don't need it.

The Corsair will run anything, you should see the spec of my rig, you would be surprised what 520w can actually run seeing as the wattage is quite low.

BrianB
10-08-2007, 03:17 PM
Thanks, so far total is $1540 without the mail in rebates which brings the price down to $1500 I think that will be my cutoff.

Jamie Nixx
Do you see anything that I left off of my list that I may need for the install. This is my first build and I don't want to get started and have to stop to wait on any more parts if I don't have too. I already have a keyboard and a mouse.

Jamie Nixx
10-08-2007, 03:24 PM
Nope everything is looking good, no need to add anything more :)

*EDIT* You need speakers, or do you?

These speakers are excellent, the 5.1 version is only a few extra dollars though.

BrianB
10-08-2007, 04:07 PM
Thanks, was not sure of which ones to go with these look good I really don't need the 5.1 setup., final price $1604.07 -- minus rebates $1534.07

Thanks,

Jamie Nixx

Considering you also got the Monitor, speakers and operating system on top of the barebones, i think that is extrememly reasonable, definately a very top of the range super pc.

Good luck with the build and if you run into any problems don't hesitate to ask :D

What is the difference between these two motherboards I know one is a plus and the other does not say that, will either one work or is one better than the other.

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=204084679
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131073

Jamie Nixx
10-10-2007, 02:54 AM
There are three motherboards all in the same family

The Asus P5N-E SLi
The Asus P5N-E SLi Plus
And the Asus P5N32-E SLi

The difference between the two is that one has (the plus) a 650i chipset, whereas the the one i recommended for you has a 680i chipset, thus being better.

Personally, even though i suggested the Asus P5N32-E SLi, the Asus P5N-E SLi (not the plus version) is an excellent board, there is basically no difference apart from the cooling pipes and newer chipset, and you can save yourself $85.

Thanks for all the help, I am currently using my new Superpc, and it blows my old Dell away it is awsome. More than I thought it would be. I will post pics when I can but it looks just like your antec 900 Jamie, and you were right the case does look better in person than in the pics.

Jamie Nixx
10-19-2007, 10:46 AM
Yeah man those pics make it look cheap, the lights are actually pretty suttle and really set off its looks. I would buy some compressed air though, it gathers a lot of dust.

Glad i could help and glad it went smoothly :)

BrianB
10-19-2007, 03:51 PM
Thanks for the tip on the compressed air,and thank you for making it go so smoothly.
