It depends on what you are going to be doing.

If you are going to be doing lots of video editing, Photoshop work etc then the Q6600 is much better as all four of the cores can be used. However, it is probably better to get the e6850 if you are going to be gaming or doing other tasks.

E6850 all the way, faster FSB and much faster when using two cores, at best most of the time the Q6600 will only be using two cores, and it will be a hell of a lot slower than the E6850.

In my opinion the Q6600 is a bit of a gimmick really, just to show what Intel can do.

Also the Q6600 runs too hot, so your probably going to need a third party cooler just to keep the temps under 40 DegC.

I would even recommend the E6750 over it.

The only way that the Q6600 will be better is if you overclocked it.

Having said that, the Q6600 will be excellent when programs and games utilise the 4 cores.

Ask yourself this question, do you want to take a big performance hit now, and have a computer set up for future use i.e next couple of years, or a computer that will be great now and continue to be great.

I really like 4 cores like Intel Core 2 Quad E6600 2.4GHz....but since its not really for gaming ..i think am gonna get the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0Ghz . Thanks to The Wise Monkey and Jamie Nixx.

You wouldn't like it very much when you have to buy a new cooler for it.

Four cores, sounds so good doesn't it, its not, its overated.

I am glad you have decided to go for the E6850, you won't be disappointed :)

Here's a great article from a very trusted source on the E6850 vs Q6600

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2quad-q6600.html

Seems for overall gaming experience, the E6850 is better. However, the Q6600 may be a better choice considering future games.

I personally have the Q6600 and it runs great, and doesn't need an extra cooler unless you overclock.

A few members on here have been having problems with the coolers for the Quads, it has been affecting a lot of their builds because they haven't been booting due to rapid overheating, someone who posted here yesterday clocked his one at 85DegC, i think they run too hot anyway, 40DegC average i have found, they should average 33DegC.

I have a lot of CPU's. including the E6850 and the Q6600.

Q6600 is the most overated CPU going bar none, at least until programs and games start utilising the 4 cores.
