Hey ya'll.

I just wanted to post the specs of the computer I am going to build. Could someone take a look at let me know if there is anything not compatible/crappy? I don't think I left anything out, except for the keyboard...

Btw...do I need a modem inside my computer to get on the internet? If so, what's a good one?

Thank you!

Where are your specs lol, i can't see them :p ;)

Post away your specs, i am a heavy critique so if i think something is crap, or if there is a better alternative, i will tell you straight, you have been warned!!!! ;) :p :D

If you are using broadband you won't need a modem :)

Everything is looking sweet as a nut mate.

One question, why the hell are you buying a 900w Power supply

Would you like me to recommend a decent PSU for you, 900w is a bit silly lol.

lorizzle

LOL I was wondering if that was a bit much! What do you reccommend?

Everything looks good. My only suggestion is to buy the 320gb hard drive for $5 more. Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB $74.99

I also agree 900w power supply seams overkill. I see you choose that because you can make a package deal with the hard drive but seams overkill. I would look at getting something around 600-700w and use the extra money for 3gb of ram and maybe a bigger monitor. Just my suggestions :)

By the way...I'm trying to buy a CPU fan. Does it matter what kind I get? Do I have to take anything into consideration?

Jamie Nixx

Its not only that mate but that PSU is over $250, thats way overkill, i mean you can get a Corsair for $129.99.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001

This is one of the best PSU's on earth if not the best.

I wouldn't recommend 3GB of ram, it can cause your system to lag if you are going to be running win XP.

Are you going to be overclocking? if not then you won't need a third party CPU cooler, the E6750 comes with an excellent fan.

What does overclocking mean? I've heard that term before...

Wow are PSUs that expensive? That's okay, if it works well, it's worth it, right? :D

Thanks for all your help so far!

Jamie Nixx

Overclocking is when you increase the speed of a component.

Example, 2.0Ghz CPU and then increasing the clock speed of it to 2.5Ghz, hence the term overclocking.

Its risky because the component heats up so you need more powerful coolers.

People often do it with low end CPU's, and then overclock them to the same speed as a much more expensive CPU.

Its not to be taken lightly and i wouldn't recommend it to newbies.

Plus you have chosen a very high end CPU anyway so you won't need to.

And the PSU is the most important component, it needs to be good, you don't want to spend a $1000 on a pc, then buy a crappy PSU and have it fry and take half your system with it.

If that is too expensive, Antec make really decent PSU's for good prices, for your system i would recommend 450w.

Oh, okay. I think I understand. Actually, I remember the power supply (didn't know what that was at the time :p ) going out on my brother's computer a long time ago, and he had to pretty much get a new one. Weak.

Thank you all for your help!

P.S.-Ms. Nixx...where are you from? I like your expression, "Sweet as nut". :o

I have found some 500W psus for $60 (Rosewill)...are those not good?

Sorry to butt in but what do you think of ultra power supply? I have seen some of your post on psu here and never see ultra in your list. Here is one I'm looking at:
Ultra X-Connect® V-Series (XVS) (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2974454&CatId=2533)
It looks real nice and you only plug in the wires you need which helps with air flow in the case. Plus comes with lifetime warranty as long as you register online. Looks like a good power supply and comes with a free case.
I think sometimes the psu is the hardest part to choose :p
What are your thoughts on ultra psu

Jamie Nixx
09-26-2007, 04:16 PM
PSU's that have cables you plug in for use are called modular just for future reference;)

And i don't like it, the modules are very flimsy plastic, so they break easily.

Why should you have to register online just to get the warranty?

Another thing is that PSU's are not built to last a lifetime, most come with a 3 to 5 year warranty, certainly not lifetime, seems dodgy to me.

http://www.jail.se/pictures/2007/new_hardware_2007/07_hiper_type-r_modular_psu.jpg

This PSU cost's the same and is much better, the design is patented, is total mesh metal body and the connectors plugs are made of metal.

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/xoxide/hiper-type-r-580-blu-5.jpg

This also comes with a toolbox which the PSU is in when you buy it :D

http://www.thg.ru/howto/power_supply_2006/images/hiper_typer_psu.jpg

Even nicer pic :D

The exhaust fan stays on for five minutes after you have turned the computer off to get rid of any hot air still inside the computer.

Sorry if i went overboard, but that ultra thing is rubbish.

Sorry about that! Thanks for being a good sport about it!

Please continue the conversation about anything you want-I am done asking questions for now! :D

Thanks everyone (especially the cockney fellow  ) for your help!

That is what I thought but they probable think after 3 to 5 years most people get a new pc.

I will have to check out Hiper as my last build I used antec and it worked great but wanted to try a psu that is modular for new build. Thanks for all your help and info Jamie Nixx, I really appreciate it :)
