newbi question about installing xp

Please bear with me, I'm learning.......What is better for new rig?
I have win98... buy xp upgrade ($99)
or buy xp full edition ($189)
Does it all come out to the same thing?

The upgrade version should be ok, i upgraded my family comp from windows ME to XP about 3 or 4 years ago and it all amounts to the same thing in my opinion.

Go with the upgrade pack and save yourself some money :)

Yes, the upgrade version will be cheaper and ok for you since you have the Windows 98 CD. It's the same as the full version, but a lot cheaper. You can do a clean install with the upgrade verison, if you prefer.

No, just do a clean install with Windows XP Upgrade Edition. It will prompt you partway through for the Windows 98 CD for verification.
