I have an ATI X1650 video card on Widow Vista, my card show any resolution but 1680x1050. Is it just my card or is it Window Vista? Currently I have to use 1280x1024, my LCD native resolution is 1680x1050.

It is probably your GPU mate.

It is quite an old card you are using.

To run at very high resolutions your card needs to have a lot of memory and be fairly new.

Jamie........After searching A LOT of websites to decide what I wanted in the computer that I was building.........I came back to this site and found that all I would have needed to do was read thru the advice here. I am not a gamer---but did want a video card that would play most games for the least price. Rob suggested the Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS 512----AND, I found where you had noted the EVGA Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT 512. Which is better? OR.....which would be a good choice for my situation. [I have the quad-core 6600, the ASUS P5KC, and the 2GB pair of Corsair. THANKS!! for any advice

The card to go for if your not gaming much is the 8600GT, getting the 7600 is taking a big step back considering the 8600GT supports DX10 ect.

The 8600GT is sufficient enough to play most games on.

OK......I understand---I noticed the DX10 reference. Now, I had already ordered the GeForce 7600 GT with 512 MB (It was offered to me for $82.00). In my research---I noted that most of the time---there is little difference between the 256 MB and the 512 MB (But at pricewatch---the 512 MB was almost twice the $82.00 price. After your response---I decided that I should have ordered the 8600 GT.
It turns out that the vendor substituted a XFX GeForce 8400 GS. I called yesterday and informed him that I DID NOT want this card. He tells me it is an excellent replacement----to research it and let him know Wednesday(Jan. 2nd) what I want to do. Which IS better? This 8400 has DX10........But It's made by XFX (which is usually cheaper) and I'm not sure if it's true 512. Help

Help---AGAIN. I have been searching for an 8600 GT video card and of course there are many choices and prices. I was considering bothering the forum about comparison of the 512 MB vs. the 256 MB when I came across the XFX GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Ready Video Card for $82.99 after rebates at ClubIT.com.

Personally i would spend a little extra on a 512mb version, it will make a difference in games.

Having said that, that is still a decent card.

NOTE: The same card with 1 GB is $140
1GB 8600GT Inno3D Nvidia Geforce 8600GT HDCP+HDTV sli PCI-X

I put an evga 8600gt 512mb in my comp. Only graphics intensive game I've played is C&C 3. It definitely gets the job done. All settings are set to their highest and I have no problems. The game looks amazing. I'm sure a lot of other games would look amazing too.
