I used to have an 7600 GT KO, which could run almost all games on highest settings I threw at it. I bought an 8800 gts compulsively, but see very little difference. Could be because I'm using an cheapish monitor (VGA). Will I see the benefits of the 8800 gts in future games, or will I have to buy a new monitor?

A game ran at high settings on a 7600GT and then the same game ran at high settings with an 8800gts will see no difference in terms of graphics but the game will be a lot more stable.

Yes the 8800GTS is worth it, try playing Crysis or Hellgate london and the like and you couldn't with any decent eye candy, the games coming out over the next few months will need a lot of graphical power to play them.

Please mate, i think you asked the silliest question i have ever heard ;)
Of course you will see a big difference in future games, you will be able to play them, the 7600GT is old news.

Decent monitor btw.
