I'm gathering the components to build a PC and I see that all the video cards have fans. The recommended low end video card eVGA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB DDR3 has several reviews with "loud fan noise".

I'm trying to build a PC that will be as silent as possible and will just be used for elementary school kids homework (no gaming) but will need a DVI interface for a flat panel LCD.

Do I need this card?

Can I get one without a fan instead?

What would you recommend?

If you are going for silent, then you should get a fanless card. If you are not going to be doing any gaming, then that card is serious overkill.

Any card will do - just make sure that it has a DVI output and no fan. :)

Gaming cards make noise, so as WM said if your not gaming just go for a fanless card.

Or if you are a gamer check out the cards that are made to be silent, it will say it in the name.

In my experience 7600GT and all cards below make a lot of noise, in one of my rigs i am running two 79OOGS's in SLi for a review i am doing and i can only hear the case fans :)
