Looking to build a gaming PC, First timer, 700$ budget.

I have no experience in assembling hardware of this sort, but im very interested in making my own gaming pc, for around 700-800 total, i know a little about ram and process power, but other than that im clueless. Im not too interested in super high spec 300 fps or anything like that, but i would like it to compete and stay quality for a good five years. Im not looking for blue prints, or anything like that, but i dont know where to start doing research.
Any advice helps, also dont be afraid to say im over my head for that price range.
