Hey all, I have an i7-920 chip with a GB-x58A-UD5 mothrrboard. The motherboard is broken. 1 pin broke on me. Won't post anymore. Seeing as the 1366 socket has been discontinued. Is it better to buy a new board and cpu with an updated socket? If so any suggestions for a combo that would match my current set up in terms of power and speed?

I would go with a i5-4670k and a Z87 motherboard like the Asus Z87-A.

Hey Ricky, thanks for the help!

I do have a question though. I found a used GB-x58A-UD7 (my dead board is a UD5). I am pretty sure this board is an upgrade. Right now with shipping it's about $260.00, is that a fair deal? I also read it is possible my chip shorted out as well, as I believe I reinserted the chip after the pins were bent. As, I did not realize they were broken when I did this. Now, that being said, I've looked on ebay. The same chip I currently have (I7-920) sells used on ebay as a buy it now option for about $80.00. I also found the i7-940 for about $100.00. Is it worth an extra $20-30 to buy the 940 if my chip is dead? Also, I am thinking about upgrading to a 120GB solid state drive to put my programs and windows 7 64bit on, any suggestions. I'd also like to change out my 6GB DDR Dominator ram for more ram. My goal would be 10GB or 12GB if the price is right. Any suggestions for this?. I think I will order the UD7 on Tuesday (pay day), as I need it sooner rather than later. Thanks!

$260 for a used x58 motherboard is way too much.
The cpu and mobo I suggested in a previous post is less than $400 and it would be much faster than what you have now. Don't put more money into an outdated system. Salvage what you can and start a new build with current generation hardware.
If i were buying an SSD today, I'd be looking at the Samsung 840 Pro.

Hey Ricky, I agree with you.

I wanted your opinion 1 more time please :-)!

Right now newegg has a special where the -plus asus z87 board is only $10 more than the A model and the -pro version is only $35.00 more than the -A model. Is it worth the extra money to upgrade to either of these mobo's?
