Hi all,

I am building a performance rig ie. for video encoding, software heavy stuff. For this I am looking for a good CPU with good threading so I can multi-task.

At the moment I am looking into the Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Processor
(10M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)- as i am aware that the socket 2011 have greater threading potential?

Any advice on CPUs is great!

Hi kimx and welcome to the forums,

Here is the url for the Sandy Bridge model, Intel i7-3820: http://ark.intel.com/products/63698 If you are interested in having graphics as part of the cpu chip, then this one does not have graphics.

The Ivy Bridge i7-3770 does have built in graphics. See this url: http://ark.intel.com/products/65719/ Neither this version, i7-3770 or the i7-3820 will allow for overclocking; but both offer a Turbo Boost Frequency of 3.9Ghz and 3.8 Ghz respectively.

If you wish to overclock, then the Ivy Bridge i7-3770K allows for overclocking and still offers the Turbo Boost.

I am not sure what you mean by your statement: For this I am looking for a good CPU with good threading so I can multi-task. Each processor has 4 cores and 8 threads (see the specs for each). It is up to the way the software is written that will determine how well 'any cpu will handle the threading'. The software would have to be written recently or modified for multiple cores in the last year or two.

Before buying application software, you should be certain that it will run multiple threads.

Hope this helps. Let me know any questions.
