So, my monitor is starting to die (about 5.5 years old now) and I am looking to buy a replacement. I have been researching topics about monitor quality, but I would appreciate any second opinions on this.
This is for a gaming pc and for other general purposes.
I have found this Philips monitor (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=1103&item_id=058476) that is currently on sale. Is this a quality monitor for the price ($134.99)?
What's the real difference between the Philips and other monitors, such as this ASUS monitor (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236100) or this ViewSonic monitor (http://www.amazon.ca/Viewsonic-VX2450WM-LED-23-6-Inch-Widescreen-Speakers/dp/B003Y3BJ7S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366151530&sr=8-1&keywords=VX2450WM-LED)?
I am on a budget, so I don't want to spend a crazy amount for a monitor that I wasn't planning for.
Do you guys have other product suggestions?

Hi Spiffs,
I can help you with the monitor but it will be tomorrow afternoon before I can get to it; completely tied up until then. Hope this is ok!

That is totally fine! The Philips deal runs until Monday so I'm not in a rush.

Hi Spiffs,
Hope I am not too late with my comments. My first suggestion is the following: Go to this Amazon.uk url and read the whole article; it is very complimentary of the Philips monitor; written by a 'owner' in India and he does seem to know what he is talking about. Just click on the following url: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-247E3LPHSU-23-6-Monitor-PowerSensor/dp/B005II43UM Be sure and read all of the review; it is really well written.
For years I sold Philips x-ray equipment and it was the finest equipment (or equal to the finest) on the market, right at the top in quality and features. You cannot transpose this comment over to household LED computer monitors, but you can take from it the fact that I can vouch for a high quality large segment of their products, medical x-ray. Philips is just a really fine company.
Back to the monitors. Here is the url for the full google page and it is full of reviews. I will look at them and comment back to you on several of them. Here is the url: https://www.google.com/search?q=monitor+reviews+Philips+247E3LPHSU&rlz=1C1PRFB_enUS475US494&aq=f&oq=monitor+reviews+Philips+247E3LPHSU&aqs=chrome.0.57j60l2j62l2.22258j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
The Philips monitor is an LED monitor. I suggest you read up on whether LED monitor or LCD monitor is best for gaming. Seems that LED is preferred for gaming; I would prefer that you read up on it and decide.
Again, nothing negative on the Philips monitor; it really seems like a nice product. Any questions, do not hesitate to ask them ! ! !

Thanks for the help zburns!
Those reviews were helpful. I was leaning towards the Philips before and now I have decided to buy it after looking around at other monitors. I'm heading to the store tomorrow to pick one up :)
Also, I happened to find an hdmi cable in my garage, which makes it easier for me to install the monitor.
'My Super PC' is great, it's always here when I need it. I actually learned how to build my first computer from this site back in 2007 haha
