View Full Version : "system has detected cpu not supported"
Hi all, I'm having some trouble with my first boot. The mobo is an Intel dq45ek and the processor is a Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU 2.4GHz 8MB L2 1066 FSB. I received this message:system has detected cpu not supported. After doing some research, I found the motherboard supports a 65w Q6600 (http://downloadmirror.intel.com/16959/eng/DQ45EK_TechProdSpec.pdf). I think the cpu may be 105 w.
Am I correct? Do I need to purchase a new processor? I really hope not. I thought any LGA775 cpu would work ok. Any help/advice is very appreciated

It looks like that board does not support a Q6600. I believe I recommended that cpu without verifying that it was supported by that board. Sorry.
Looking at the list of supported processors, you could use a quad core Q8400s or a dual core E8400. Both of which are very good options and should be relatively easy to find.

Not your fault, thanks for the reply. I purchased a dual core E7500 online today. Should do the trick. It was definitely a rookie mistake on my part. Will the heatsink that came with the Q6600 work for my new CPU? I think it will.
On a side note, anyone interested in buying a Q6600 from me? lol

From my experience, all the heatsinks for LGA775 were all the same.
