Have you considered the i7-3770k

I was told that the upgradability of the 3770k was more limited, although the motherboard cpu combo would be considerably cheaper........
what mother board 3770k combo would you recommend for $350-400 dollars

They are both limited on their ability to upgrade. Intel's next cpu (Haswell) will introduce a new socket, LGA1150.

At $115, this motherboard is hard to beat.

in your opinion would you say it is worth waiting for the new socket, given that it is coming out in Q$ of this year.....
also would that mobo be the "limiting factor" in my build?
and finally (sorry), what do you think about futureproofness of my build?,

It really depends on what you want this computer to do. Is it a gaming rig, or business pc, or what?

If you can wait, Haswell is supposed to be significantly better than Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge.

well I have to build before the end of the year, adn this will be mainly for gaming, music production and also various radiant programs (ie COD waw,4,bo)

For what you described, you don't need the i7 processor at all. Unless you're doing some heavy multitasking, there's no need.
Save the money from the processor and invest it in the video card.
Maybe something like this:
Intel i5-3570k
Asus P8Z77 or the motherboard I listed earlier
8gb of ram
Either a Radeon HD7950 or an Nvidia GTX670
etc
etc
