Hey guys,

I signed up for this forum just to get some advice on exactly what the title states.

I'm working on an ultimate build but am new to the world of dual-gpu cards as well as sli so assuming money and space are no issue what is the better setup?

Set-up 1) 2 Asus gtx-690s (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_559&item_id=048894)
Set-up 2) 4 Asus gtx-680s (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_559&item_id=047626)
Look forward to responses!

Cheers,
Prat

Hi Prat and welcome to the forums,

Either card will work with a large monitor 2560 x 1600 resolution.

Here are the numbers: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 has 1536 CUDA Cores (processors) and 2 GB of GDDR5 Video Memory

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 has 3072 CUDA Cores (processors) and 4 GB of GDDR5 Video Memory

The 680 will run at a slower frame rate than the 690. Theoretically, I assume the GTX690 will run at twice the frame rate of GTX680 or close to twice the frame rate. The 690 has twice the processors and twice the memory; it is all 'so symmetrical' the 690 just seems to be twice as fast, from a frame rate viewpoint. If you are going to spend the dollars to buy either one, I would call Asus and confirm my analysis or my comment!!

They are large cards and will really put out some heat, so large case, fans, etc. are needed. Monitor size looks to be about a 27 inch.

My mistake, did not pay attention to the Dual 690 vs Quad 680. I suggest you google Dual GTX 690 and Quad GTX 680. There are plenty of comments about both. Some reviews by good reviewers such as Tom's Hardware and Anandtech!

So you're essentially looking at $2400.00 for the dual 690, or $2200.00 for the quad 680.

I guess it depends on the motherboard, but I would run 2 690's in SLI because it will use fewer PCIe lanes, and theoretically use less power. And probably produce less heat.

What monitor(s) are you using?
