love your book.......
have been building cpu's @ home for a while now, lots of helpful info in your book, some things never occurred to me , lol

quick questions.....
is it better to update mobo, bios, chipset, video cards before you install WinXP ?
I know XP is unruly sometimes.

can you use Sata and Pata drives in same CPU ??
if so, should Pata drive be the operating drive(OS and Programs)

if you don't run Raid, do you still need the scsi drivers(F6 on install) ???

that's what I did and was OK for a time, but,one Sata drive is now "not accessible"

any ideas??

How can you update the drivers before you install XP? :/

You don't need the RAID drivers if you are not running a RAID configuration. :)

couldn't one download updates from mfg websites and copy to cd , prior to
build process, using updated drivers before/instead of using drivers from outdated cd that's supplied with hardware ??

Yeah know, the more I read this post and my last post................I'm really not that thick !!!
your right, you need xp to load drivers, my bad

Heh, its OK. You can do something called "slipstreaming", which allows you to add drivers and updates to the original XP cd - extremely useful. For more info on this, check out http://driverpacks.net/ for drivers, and http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/ for the latest updates.
