So I'm looking for parts to build my own computer. However, there are two problems: I'm a total PC noob and I only have 550$ to spend. Any tips or part you recommend? ( I don't need a keyboard, monitor or mouse.)

$550 is a pretty tight budget.
Try this on for size.
$70 Case and psu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133185
$100 motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157230
$125 processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115077
$30 ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231275
$80 hard drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181
$150 video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908
Once you include the mail in rebates, it comes in at just below $550.

Thanks for the super fast reply. Is the i3 dual fast enough to support high resolution games? I might buy Crysis two and I was wondering if that could support it. If not I probably could move up to 600$

You may not be able to max out all the settings, but it should run with no problems.

So playing games like Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft will be no problem? That is what I would mostly play (Portal 2 too.)

Shouldn't be a problem. Game on!
