View Full Version : 1st Time Building a PC, need help

Hello all,

I have never undertaken this type of project, but I am looking forward to it:) Here's what I'm thinking about getting (mostly going to be used for gaming);

I want this build to play new games on high/ultra (especially Diablo 3) with no stuttering/FPS drops. My budget is fairly flexible, but I would like to save money in whatever areas I can and not go overkill. I know there is no power supply chosen, I don't know what kind I need/how many watts. I plan on using the SSD in conjunction with the 1TB HDD. I don't plan on overclocking anything, as I don't really know much about that. With that being said, is everything compatible? What areas should I upgrade/downgrade in? ANY advice/tips are welcome!

A couple of things stand out.

That's a full tower case. It's big. Do you really need that much room?

You'll need much more gpu than a 550 Ti if you want to game at ultra high settings.

There's really no need to purchase the liquid cooling kit if you don't have plans on overclocking. Put that money into a better video card.

Alright so downgrade the case, ditch the liquid cooling kit and upgrade the video card. Any suggestions for video cards/cases? I forgot a network card for connecting to the internet... I see that my mobo has 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit LAN... what exactly does that mean? That the mobo has a built in ethernet connection for internet? Do I need to buy a separate card for wireless connecting?

You don't need a network card, it's built into the motherboard. If you plan to connect to the internet wirelessly, then yes you'll need a separate wireless adapter.

For a video card, take a look at the GTX560 Ti 448, or an HD 7950. There are newer cards entering the market soon, so there should be more options available.

I'm a sucker for flashy stuff I guess :P I like it's features plus the esata on the front; I dump stuff onto my 2tb external all the time. I will be switching to the 560 ti for sure... maybe it will come down in price when those newer cards hit the market.
