what computer hardware should i get for a 1200-1400$ budget

Hey guys im planning on making a pretty high end gaming computer. The computer i was using broke down on me and now im stuck with a laptop. I need a good gaming computer to play skyrim, and guild wars 2 at max settings. This will be the first computer i make and i need help picking good computer components. I know some things arn't compatable with others and i don't want to mess that up so if someone can give me a list of good computer hardware i will be very greatful :). My budget is 1200-1400$. Check the sticky in the forum "Recommended Builds" for some good suggestions. Do you have any preferences between Intel/AMD or NVIDIA/AMD?

For what it's worth, my build (in my sig) cost me about $1200 and runs games such as Battlefield 3 with ease!
