First Time to Build My Own - Please Criticize My Choices I Picked to Start

If one of your guys, that knows what your are doing, could let me know if there might be better choices for the beginning of computer I plan to build, that would be great. I especially want to know if parts below are compatible. Thank you for your time.

UPDATE - I CHANGED CASE TO - Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced RC-932-KXN5-GP Black Stee ATX Full Tower Computer Case with USE 3.0, etc.

Just for home use. Internet, DVD videos or downloaded films, occassionaly making home video movies, college tasks, etc.
I have two computers. One made in 2005 and another made about five years before that. I need to replace the older one.
It goes very slow and sometimes freezes, etc. Just too much and enough Ram, etc. Already install maximum Ram and new video card.
Spent about $1100 on newer one. So, I figure it will probably cost same or more it is built to last 10 years or more.
Just don't want to make mistake and have $1000 pile of junk. Thanks for any advice you wish to give.

Thats a good CPU for office tasks and such, as long as you dont use it for any heavy video editing it should be fine :)

What's your budget? Looks good so far. A 400W PSU should be more than enough. Just make sure you get a quality one.

I was considering the second one for $940. However, when I read ratings by buyers on NewEgg, I become apprehensive. For the past ten years I have used Western Digital HDs. I never heard of Samsung. How long have they been making HDs. How do they compare to Western Digital? I have used ASUS mother boards for past ten years, put have never heard of them making Optical drives. How do their's compare to Sony's which I have used for years? Thank you for your time.

Samsung hard drives are top notch. However, they sold their mechanical hard drive business to Seagate several months ago. I like Western Digital mostly, but Hitachi is also an excellent product.
