The new Intel cpu coming soon is named IVY BRIDGE and is fabricated on 22 nanometer spacing between components, smaller than the current Sandy Bridge 32 nanometer. This Ivy Bridge cpu will have relatively the same performance as Sandy Bridge but will use far less power. The main reason for the reduction in power is the 22 nanometer spacing and 'Tri-Gate Transistors' -- Intel's name for their newly developed (invention) transistor!

The article and videos are very interesting and easy to understand on the first viewing. Well worth looking at if for anyone interested in the advancement of computer technology. The single significant point of the 22 nanometer process and the tri-gate transistor is that Intel is now going to a 'three dimensional transistor design' versus the current 'planar double-gate transistors', the word 'planar' meaning or suggesting 'a flat plane' for the transistor -- almost a 'flat plane surface' with a third dimension that 'approaches zero'. The article either 'states' or 'implies' that Intel is reaching the point where the physical spacing between components cannot be reduced much more, therefore, they must 'go higher' (thicker, three dimensional) instead of the essentially flat current technology which is 'effectively' two dimensional.

Look for the last sentence in the article right above the picture of the third video; sentence begins with "One last very cool fact about just how small 22nm Tri-Gates are: . . . . " -- you will be surprised!!

Good info zburns! I've also read that the onboard GPU on the InvyBridge CPU is much better as well. I am eager to see what the price points will be!
