Looking for help on a new build

Hi there. Chanced upon this website offering great advice and after hours of effort, and I finally created an email address that has yet to be banned by the administrator.

Anyways, I am looking for suggestions as I intend to build my own PC. My budget is SGD1200 (USD900+) i intend to use the computer for some gaming, like FIFA 12, Starcraft 2. I'm not really into high-end components, just searching for something that can run smoothly, preferably cheap too! :) because i'm a student, 18, I don't have much money.

Some help would be appreciated.

finally done with my A level examinations. okay, so here goes the plan:

PSU:
OCZ Z-Series 550W 80+ Silver

CPU:
Intel Core i5-2500k Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz

Motherboard:
Gigabyte Z68A-D3-B3

RAM:
G-Skill RipJawX 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 8GB

GPU:
Asus HD6850 1GB

HDD:
Samsung 1TB 32MB 7200rpm

Optical Drive:
LG GH24NS50 24x DvD-Writer SATA

OS:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

total adds up to around 1.3k SGD?

any advice?

considering i will only play games FIFA 12, will it be an overkill?

Pretty good build!

If you plan any OC (even small), I would suggest an aftermarket cooler. The Cooler Master 212+ or Corsair A50. That will add ~$35USD. I like the case, but you can step down to a 400R (they look identical to me minus some fans) and you can step up the PSU a bit to 650W just to have the headroom in the future (Crossfire etc.).

I like the white casing more hence I'm opting for the 500R!

Just a few more questions, do you think my build is slightly overkill for my gaming purposes? Because I don't really play graphics intensive games like BF3. Also, is OC difficult to carry out? First time building a computer here, so I'm slightly paranoid. Sorry!

I may be a slight overkill, but not in a bad way. It would help making the system "future-proof". But I certainly understand the need to stay within a given budget.

I've said many times, over-clocking is over-rated. It's fun to tinker around with it, but I don't like putting the extra stress on my components when I don't have to. If your system can't handle the load you're putting on it, then over-clocking is an option for you, but just doing it for fun or benchmark scores seems kind of silly to me. jmo
