View Full Version : 2 yr old build needs upgrade

hey ok so been long time since i used this site but i did eventually build a comp as was well impressed with site help now comp is lagging a little and as i have no clue as to whats good and whats compatible thought id ask for help here here is list of what a bought

1 x Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H 785G Socket AM2+ VGA DVI HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard 174223 £54.49

all ebuyer i also have 2 dvd drives running win 7 32bit

basically i know i can just add more mem but with prices i don't know if i should change processor and existing mem or even if that's possible

I would start with adding ram and see what it does. Look for a kit of 4gb(2x2gb) of DDR2 1066. Should be fairly easy to find.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just a few extra questions. First is ddr2 actually good ram to go forward with. I have found the following 2 on ebuyer what's your opinion on them. Ie. Quality/value. And finaly what's the difference in them other than price.

Those are both very good. I would go with the less expensive one.

bought memory and replaced old stuff (comp only recognising 3.25gb anyway) but after checking memory on crucial website it says its only DDR PC2-6400 not 8500 i went on to bios and changed mhz so it says 1066 and upped power by 0.2 to 2.0 and its still staying same. im a bit of a bios virgin so any other changes i will need walked through

You need to know what voltage the ram is supposed to run at, and don't deviate from that. If you're using a 32-bit operating system like Windows XP, then about the max amount of ram your system will recognize is 3.5.
