Although I know enough about computers to be a part of normal nerd conversations, I still have not built my own computer. So, I have spent the last few days researching on what would be a decent computer to build for myself. Here is my prelim results..

Tower: COOLER MASTER HAF 932 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160)

Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131644)

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103849)

PSU: COOLER MASTER GX Series RS750-ACAAE3-US 750W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171053)

Video: XFX HD-687A-ZNFC Radeon HD 6870 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150506)

Memory: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 16GB (4 x 4GB) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145312)

Along with a TB of HD, a single CD/DVD drive, and Win7, turns out near $1200. I don't plan on changing any of this for a good while except the possible HD increase. My main beef was whether to get AMD or Intel for the MOBO/CPU. I have seen lots of good from this AMD combo, and that it runs as well as the i7-2600 for $120 cheaper. I don't want to spend too much, but I don't want to cheat myself out of something worthwhile and having to upgrade earlier.
Well, I could basically second-guess myself on every choice I have made here... Is there a better tower for the same price? Is 16GB RAM too much? Do I need a better PS? I just want to know if this is halfway decent and if/where I could make improvements. Need it for gaming and some low-end graphics programs

I'll only answer the one question and leave the rest to those more knowledgeable...

"Is 16GB RAM too much?"

For the uses you listed - yes. 8GB should give you way more than enough for what you need it for, and still allows for easy expansion to 12 or 16GB later if you want to (assuming you go with a 2x4GB setup).

I also think your PSU is more than adequate as well.

Looks like a solid build. PSU is plenty. 16gb of ram is a lot, but it's cheap now, so why not...right?
