I'm building my new pc and have a question about hard drives. I really don't know much about a RAID set up much less how to do it. However, I won't say I'll never do it. So, for now I'm buying one hard drive, the http://newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136073
If I potentially want to set up a RAID system in a year or so, is it better to buy this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136032
I've been reading Rob's comments on hard drives and RAID. That's about all I know about RAID.

Thanks

Well I just purchased this HDD:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073&Tpk=N82E16822136073

Which is the first one you mentioned. Both your links are invalid but I figured out the first one... The second one on the other hand I couldn't get. You should probably fix that.

Raid is for people who either write a lot of information to the disk constantly or want extra protection by mirroing 2 HDDs. RAID requires 2 HDDs regardless of what kinda raid you do.

I wouldn't do a RAID configuration if I were you. If you feel the need to get 2 HDDs, I would buy a $100 one that is around 36gig/10000RPM for the OS and another $100 500gig one for storage.

Go to wikipedia to learn about RAID, that's how I did =)
