Ok so I already have my dvd-drives as well as a Thermaltake Tsunami case (ATX). Please just let me know if I stupidly paired the wrong things as I've never done this before. Thanks!

Wrong ram. You need triple channel. Something like this.

Not the motherboard that I would have chosen, but I understand going "open box" to save some bucks.
Did you consider Intel's latest Sandy Bridge?

i did but im really only a moderate PC user so I feel spending the extra money isnt really necessary. About the motherboard, the non-open box version had great reviews so i thought it would work well, why did you think otherwise?

The "K" version has an unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking. If you have no desire to overclock, there's no reason to spend the extra cash.
Going the Sandy Bridge route is not really going to be any more expensive than what you have.
