I have been told that the type memory you have on your video card has to be the same as what is on your motherboard. Is this true?

My motherboard has DDR type memory can I get a video card that has DDR2 type memory?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA no thats wrong mate, very wrong,. Graphics cards use GDDR3 memory and have been for over 3 years and motherboards are only just on DDR3 memory now, don't listen to that BS  ;)

I was gonna post the same question and found this thread.
Comparing vid cards at newegg, this one uses ddr2 memory.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130292
and this one uses ddr3.

It appears to be the same card except for the memory type and about $50.00.
I was looking for a pair for an sli setup, is it worth the extra money?

As far as the two video cards I'm not sure what the difference is in ram. But I did notice the ports are different. One video card comes with 2 DVI and HDTV / S-Video Out the other 1 D-SUB and 1 DVI and HDTV / S-Video / Composite Out. So I think the price difference is the ports that come with the video cards.

Good thing I dont have the money for all the component I think I want or I would probably be sitting here looking at $3000.00 worth of crap.
I'll just keep reading everything I can find and asking question and hopefully the knowledge will come faster than the money.
