I have the money and ready to pull the trigger but would like some advice on my selections...

I will be doing some gaming and video editing as well as normal day to day use.

Questions I have are around the compatability:

GPU fitting in the case
Power Supply large enough for everything
Do I need additional cables
What about CPU paste

I found this DIY PC Combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.569868 and wanted to know what people think....

Mark

Everything looks fine to me.
The GPU is 10.5 inches, and reviews say a 10.5 inch card will fit.
Power supply is fine
All cables will be included
The cpu cooler will come with paste.

Great thanks RickyTick.... I do not know that much about speeds, makes, etc... Over all does this look to be a good system? Should be a solid machine for years?

Also,

Products are warrantied through the company for at least 1 year? I have only experienced hard drive failures in the past and most had 3 year RMA warranties....Should I look into the extended plans or anything? The newegg return policy on the GTX570 states only 30 days...what happens if it goes bad in 3 months or something? Am I covered?

The card has a 3 year warranty. Be sure to register it at the manufacturer's website.

Overall, it seems to be an excellent system.

OK so I got it all put together but for the life of me I cant figure out how to get the video card to work...

The motherboard does have onboard video, which is working fine....

I add the GTX 570 and nothing shows up in the device manager for me to update drivers...I tried to change a setting in the bios to turn off the onboard video but dunno what I did cause I had no video at all...Reset bios and back working with the onboard video.

How to I install the GTX 570?
Power everythign down
2. Ground myself with wrist strap
3. Plug card into PCI 16 slot and tighten with screws
4. Connect 2 power cables from PSU to GPU
Boot up computer...and nothing happens...I do heare windows boot up in the speakers so it is just a video issue.

Please help me out...

Am I supposed to install drivers first for this card?
How do I determine if it is defective?
Am I supposed to disable the onboard video first in the bios? Then how will I see or does the gtx become a standard VGA until drivers installed...Was there something I did wrong?

Feeling lost

thanks for any help

Mark

What is your monitor connected to?

Just recently,(yesterday) I did read that the onboard video disables itself when a video card is plugged in. Very sure of my statement.

If you had video before going into BIOS, then you changed some settings in BIOS, and at that point you then had no video -- is that what you are saying. If so, your mistake is in something you did in the BIOS.

As for driver update, when you loaded Win 7 (did you do this or was it already loaded when you got it?), Win 7 would have furnished a driver or called out for you to update the driver. -- I am sort of guessing with this comment since I do not have Win 7, (this is how Vista loaded for me). At any rate, you would not have gone thru the Win 7 loading process and not seen a screen alert for the driver if it was needed -- Ricky, or someone, please confirm this statement.

If you did not have to assemble the PC and load Win 7, then you may have to load a driver -- Ricky should know more about this than I do.

Your two PCI power cables have two 6 pin connectors on them; if not what is the configuration. You mentioned 'tightened down several screws'. Is the screw/card configuration such that it was impossible for you to overtighten a screw or screws, thereby, putting a 'torque' on the board that would cause a warp or stress to the board? -- this is a "long shot" kind of statement, but possible.

I tried to change a setting in the bios to turn off the onboard video but dunno what I did cause I had no video at all...Reset bios and back working with the onboard video.
This statement says video works with the onboard but not with the card, correct? Monitor is lit up when using onboard video or not?

Last question, is the monitor connector on the Video card connector the same as the monitor connector from the motherboard (the one you use for onboard video)? (Ricky's question said differently)
