I recently put together the following system and have major problems now.

OS: Windows XP SP 3
Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 645
Motherboard: Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5
Memory: Patriot DD3 1333 MHz (2 x 4GB)
Video card: GeForce 8600GT
Power supply: Corsair GS600

First I had problems with standby... the video would take a long time to come back from standby. Finally the video died completely... when I boot up, the monitor just says "no signal." Tried two different video cards, same problem (and both cards work in another computer).

Now, I just picked these parts at random from Fry's. I realize now I should have consulted an expert first to find well-respected parts.

So, leaving aside my issues, let's just say I want to hang onto the processor, and choose a really good motherboard, graphics card, and PSU to go with it. Graphics card does not need to be really powerful (the 8600 GT was fine with the one graphic game I play).

Secondarily, maybe someone knows what's going on with the video. I suspect the motherboard because the computer otherwise seemed to boot (the disk was spinning for the appropriate length of time). Hard to imagine a CPU failure causing this if the mb was fine.
