Intended to just follow mysuperpc exactly but then decided to splurge on a faster cpu which then required other changes. But what I have put together on paper I think "should" work. This is my 1st build so the more numbers & spec's I look at the more confused I become. Anyway, this is it:

Case & Power Supply --
Antec Sonata III Quiet Super Mid Tower ATX Case (Blk) (includes EarthWatts 500-watt power-supply) - $120.00
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000QAVVAM/mysuperpc-20
Processor --
Intel Core i7-2600 3.40GHz Quad-Core Desktop Processor - $295.00
http://www.buy.com/prod/intel-core-i7-2600-3-40ghz-quad-core-desktop-processor/q/loc/101/219509813.html
Motherboard --
Intel DH67BL Micro ATX H67 Motherboard, LGA1155 Socket, USB 3.0, SATA 6.0 Gb/s - BOXDH67BL - $103.99
http://www.buy.com/prod/intel-dh67bl-micro-atx-h67-motherboard-lga1155-socket-usb-3-0-sata-6-0/q/loc/101/217611513.html
RAM -- [this I’m uncertain about – 10600? 12800?]
4GB kit (2GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory module
BL2KIT25664BN1337 - $72.99

Video Card -- Onboard I think will be adequate(?).
Sound Card -- Onboard I think will be adequate(?).
Hard Drive (1) -- [or maybe 2 in RAID 1 setup]
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200rpm SATA 300 MB/s $87.99
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001C271MA/mysuperpc-20
Flat Panel Monitor --
HP (Hewlett-Packard) Performance ZR24W 24" LCD Monitor 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz - 16:10 - 5 ms - 0.270 mm - 1000:1 - $442.00
Keyboard & Mouse -- Logitech EX 100 (Keyb & Mouse) - $29.99
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001AAK0P4/mysuperpc-20
Operating System -- Win 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (OR 32 bit ???)

NOTE: Unsure if aftermarket heatsink / CPU Fan / cooler &/or Thermal grease is required.

Mostly used for general PC uses, internet, etc + Photoshop, Music files & editing, etc. This may be too much system for my uses but I'd rather over-do it than under. I may do more in the future......never know!

Thanks!

Sorry I missed this post last week. :(

Looks like an excellent build. If you do a lot of photoshop work, you might consider 8gb of ram.

Cool. I was considering more RAM & I think I will. With 4 memory slots my understanding that pairs is the key? As in (2) 4GB sticks as opposed to (4) 2GB sticks? Also wasn't sure whether to get PC3-10600 or PC3-12800.

Thanks

10600 is standard for that motherboard. You could go with the 12800 if you plan to over-clock at some point later on. You're much better off going with an 8gb kit consisting of (2x4gb).

Great! Yeah I was thinking of perhaps overclocking sometime down the road so i may as well set up for that possiblilty.

Thanks for the advice.

Good thing I didn't get this system yet given the Sandy Bridge problems. Now I have to decide whether to wait & see how that "sorts out" OR switch CPU's entirely.

Yeah, it's really kind of a mess right now.

i guess this would be "the 6 month rule" in effect.....of course no one knows yet how this will pan out but any opinions on waiting a month or 2 or just pick another CPU & MoBo? i'm eager to rid myself of current PC as its driving me mental but could hold off if necessary. the performance of the 2600K's is awfully enticing.
